Description:
Thorneywood Mount Rehabilitation Unit is an open 18 bed specialist inpatient unit for adults with enduring psychosis and associated needs. We have a strong Recovery focus. We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and highly motivated Healthcare Assistant to provide high quality care within our service. Under the supervision of a Registered Mental Health Nurse, the post holder will support patients with their identified rehabilitation needs.
Applicants preferably have some experience of working within the mental health setting, be flexible, hardworking and compassionate. The post requires an individual with strong communication skills and who has the ability to work within a team. This role requires someone who can work under pressure and be adaptable.
HCA’s are expected to support the nurse in charge deliver a high standard of patient care under the supervision of the nurse in charge. They are expected to work a 24/7 shift rotation. This will include carrying out patient observations, supporting patients with personal care and other living skills such as cooking, patient 1:1 support, patient escorts off unit, supporting therapeutic groups, taking physical health observations, communicating and documenting pertinent information in line with Trust policy, supporting manage acute distress and agitation inpatients that will have enduring mental health problems. There is a reasonable amount of cleaning that needs to be completed as part of Infection Prevention and Control measures. All staff are expected to wear appropriate PPE at times where indicated. There is some moderate lifting at times on shift, but staff are told to not lift any load they are not comfortable with. There is a moderate amount of walking needed throughout the shift but there are areas to sit down in. Although uncommon, staff may need to restrain patients with approved TMVA techniques. Staff may also be required to provide first aid and hospital life support in an emergency.
