Maintain the integrity of the medical record by monitoring timely and accurate completion of clinical documentation.

  • Maintains the Master Patient Index and other system tables such as provider ID and chart locator for the HIM department to ensure efficient use of the system and accurate information.
  • Along with the electronic system corrections, update any associated paper documentation to be consistent with the electronic systems.
  • Monitors transcription system and process transcribed reports.
  • Analyzes medical records for complete documentation; monitor and report on completion status.
  • Processes e-messages from physicians using the e-signature system in order to resolve problems with reports or other questions.
  • Review, correct, and analyze data received from various functions performed by record processing, including Master.
  • Patient Index (EMPI) activity, ROI, deficiency analysis, and delinquency processes.
  • Works closely with Patient Registration, Patient Financial Services, and Information Services to solve issues arising from inaccurate patient data.
  • Be a resource working closely with the Patient Registration Department and Patient Financial Services to analyze and provide solutions for duplicates or other inaccuracies in the electronic patient database.
  • Reconcile paper records with department documents to verify receipt of all records.
  • Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission accreditation standards and HIPAA compliance.
  • Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CT Children’s STANDARDS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Preferred: Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Required: Previous experience with electronic MPI, patient registration, and billing and clinical system processes.
  • Experience with the implementation and use of an EHR system in an acute care hospital setting in the HIM setting or information services setting.
