The role
The position is responsible for development, implementation, monitoring, analysis and enhancement of the Townsville HHS HSW Management System and the associated programs, processes, and practices to enhance safety maturity across the organisation. The role works collaboratively within the HSW team to strengthen outcomes for Townsville HHS including continuous improvement of HSW performance and ongoing development of a positive safety and wellbeing culture.

  • Fixed Term Temporary full-time, up to three months

Role requirements

  • Whilst not mandatory, the following qualifications and/or experience is highly desirable:
  • Tertiary qualification in occupational health and safety (Diploma or Advanced Diploma) with relevant experience; or an equivalent level of expertise.
  • Lead Auditor in OHS Management Systems or knowledge and experience of OHS/WHS auditing in a large and complex organisation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and legislation related to Work Health and Safety with minimum three to five (3 - 5) years’ experience in health and safety role within a large and complex organisation.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or demonstrated ability to deliver WHS training in a large and complex organisation.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated high-level knowledge of contemporary HSW systems approach and significant experience in supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of WHS Management Systems within a large, complex organisation.
  • Highly developed skills in evaluating HSW management systems and processes and providing recommendations for HSW system improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in implementing HSW improvement initiatives, including supporting workers and people leaders through change and to achieve an organisational culture that is focused on HSW.
  • Significant knowledge of contemporary HSW and risk management systems, processes and principles, WHS legislation with audit, investigation and/or training experience.
  • Experience in the development of evidence-based HSW management reports, and the ability to collect and maintain HSW data in software systems and programs.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to engage and build ‘trusted’ relationships with workers and managers to achieve improved health, safety and wellbeing performance outcomes.
