Description:

We are looking for a full time Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join this busy department working in the Medical Retina clinics at City Road. The role of a Healthcare Assistant is very important in our department to ensure the department maintains high standards of care and cleanliness.
This post is a hybrid role as it involves working clinically under the supervision of qualified nurses and covering housekeeping duties for the Medical Retina Service. The post holder will be expected to do 40 percent of their hours as clinical and 60 percent to cover housekeeping duties.
You must be a motivated person, able to use your initiative with excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work with patients and their families. You must comfortable working within a team and on one’s own. Possess a pleasant manner, be motivated and have the ability to use one’s own initiative.
You will be a very valued member of the medical retina team.
The role of an HCA is of very important in our department to ensure the department maintains high standards care and cleanliness in order provide a comfortable environment for staff, patients and their family.

Responsibilities:

Undertake visual acuity checks and Instillation of eye drops.
Undertake intraocular pressure checks and other vital observations.
Undertake OCT imaging and Urinalysis.
Ensure the Quality boards are updated monthly.
Maintain cleanliness in the department.
Ordering and monitoring clinic stock levels
Provision of leaflets in all Medical Retina clinical areas and patients waiting areas.
Ensure the sluice room is kept tidy all the time.
Report any faulty equipment or appliances, and follow up repairs with Estates

To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment
At all times treat patients with dignity and respect, exercising discretion and maintaining their confidentiality both inside and outside the hospital environment.
Work collaboratively with others as part of the multi-disciplinary team, assisting nursing and other clinical staff in duties associated with patient care.
Following the completion of training must be competent to undertake a range of physical/clinical observations appropriate to the area of practice. Record the outcome and report and escalate exceptions to registered nurses or medical staff.
Ensure that the clinical areas are prepared for use e.g. damp dusting of surfaces, replenishing of eye drops, stationery and other consumables as required.
Ensure that the clinical environment is clean and tidy at all times, adhering to all health and safety and infection control policies.
Initiate reporting of faulty equipment and follow-up repairs keeping the nurse in charge informed.
Ensure the Quality boards on the lower ground floor, Diagnostic Hub and the Retinal therapy unit are updated monthly.
Monitoring and replenishing clinical stock levels in all our clinical areas (Retinal Therapy Unit, Diagnostic Hub, and the Lower ground floor clinics).
Replenishing of clinical items should be done at least twice a day mostly in the morning and after and at another when it is necessary.
Monitoring stock levels in the main storeroom on the Lower ground floor and ensure that the storeroom kept clean and in order.
Maintain cleanliness in the department, sorting clean linen for the injection suite and ensure the sluice room is kept tidy.
Responsible for ordering stock on PECOS and Non catalogue items as directed by the Lead nurse.
Ensure the laser suite is kept clean and tidy and that all laser room are stocked with the necessary drops. Will also be responsible for the laser lenses
