The role will be varied from day to day and you must be able to meet the everchanging requirements with the ability to multi task, problem-solve and work under pressure. The key purpose of this role is the overall efficient running of the services within the Health Centre and the security measures in place.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Familiarize and comply with Hospital and Departmental policies in relation to patient/staff safety i.e. Patient charter, Health and Safety, Fire Orders, Infection Control, Hygiene, Waste disposal;
• To collect and return patients from hospital wards and assist with transporting wheelchair and trolley cases to the Emergency department and any other dept in the hospital;
• Chaperone/ monitor patients if required when procedures are being performed;
• Assist with moving and handling of patients for procedures/examinations when necessary in accordance with the Hospital Manual Handling Policy and assist patients onto and off the hospital be;
• Assist with confused or agitated patients while in the department and remain with and monitor patients that require supervision;
• Be alert to patients with special needs and inform Nursing staff if the patient requires assistance;
• Inform the Nursing staff if any patient requires assistance;
• Respond to all requests through the bleep system and provide the required support;
• Drive any vehicle that is required under the direction of the chargehand or General services manager;
• Have respect for patients, reassure them at all times and always be aware of confidentiality issues;
• Help and support patients prior to and after procedures/examinations and ensure patients comfort at all times pre and post examination where necessary, e.g. provision of blankets etc;
• Assist with emergency first aid as directed;
• Be vigilant to patient’s safety particularly while they are waiting for examinations and returning to the ward i.e. ensuring that trolley and bed sides are secure and any other issue that could arise in relation to safety;
• Report any equipment items etc, which require repair /maintenance;
• Assist with issues relating to day-to-day operation such as Materials Management/catering/linen/environmental depts.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE:

• Hold a full and clean C1 Driver’s License;
• Must be willing to undergo Garda Vetting;
• Fluent English;
• Eligible to work FULL TIME in Ireland;
• Experience in Healthcare environment and patient care and patient handling.
