Description:

After the successful launch of our Award-Winning Aspiring Nurse programme last year, we are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity once again. We will invest in your future with us in Powys Teaching Health Board, by paying for you to complete your nursing degree without having to leave home. As part of a scheme to ‘Grow our own’, you will be supported to undertake a 3-year nursing degree with our academic partners in Wales. Not only will your college and university fees be paid for, but you will also be employed on a full time Healthcare Support Workers salary for the duration of the academic programme, earning while you’re learning! Once you have successfully completed your nursing degree you will be guaranteed a Registered Nurse job with PTHB.
In return, we ask that you remain with us as a qualified Nurse for at least two years following your registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), during which time you will receive on-going professional development and support. Currently we have a number of entry level roles available in both Adult and Mental Health settings, all of which you can apply for without prior nursing experience, as we will provide all the training you need.
To make your dream become a reality, submit your application now or contact us on PowysJobs@wales.nhs.uk for more information.
To be eligible for this opportunity, you must reside within or on the borders of Powys.
Interview and Assessment Centres planned for week commencing 15th July 2024.
Throughout your first year you will receive one day a week academic study delivered virtually (on-line) by Llandrillo College. The remaining 4 days will be spent working as a HCSW within a clinical setting, where you’ll continue to receive a supportive programme of work to help achieve the required nursing proficiencies.
Years two and three will see you released full-time from your HCSW duties, to undertake the remaining stages of your degree. You will study through a distance learning model with one of our University partners in Wales. In line with this model, all of your clinical placements will also take place in Powys, supporting you to earn and learn from within your home county.
This is a program for people who live in Powys or close to the Powys borders who want to train as a Registered Nurse in adult or mental health nursing. It supports you to start by gaining a level 4 qualification whilst working as a HCSW and then go to university to study as a nurse without having to pay any course fees.
Your duties as a HCSW are detailed in the attached Job Description. As an Aspiring Nurse, you will be expected to commit fully to the academic program of learning and undertake all requirements of the course.
Being the smallest Heath Board in Wales means that you won’t get lost in the crowd. Everybody at Powys Teaching Health Board is valued for the contribution they make to our varied and diverse portfolio of community-based services. Together, we can continue to make a real difference to our patients and build on our unrivalled reputation.
As a supportive and progressive employer, we actively encourage you to carve out a career with us, through a range of development pathways. We’re also lucky enough to be situated in one of the most beautiful rural counties in Britain, let alone Wales! Achieving a healthy ’life work’ balance is essential, and something we recognise by prioritising your well-being.
