JOB DESCRIPTION:
At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Heat Treatment Process Engineer within Transmissions Centre of Excellence function. This is an opportunity for you to provide expert technical support and advise on Heat Treatment processes within a busy and high demanding aerospace manufacturing team.
You will experience working in a very structured, busy and technically challenging but friendly environment on the delivery of manufacturing engineering activities in support of a high accuracy gear shop heat treatment area, compromising of gas carburizing, press quench and Vacuum furnaces and inspection activities for helicopter gear components.
We work on many of the Leonardo Helicopter platforms, in the civil, military platform and new technology, Tilt rotor and UAV.

Responsibilities:
As Heat Treatment Process Engineer your main activities will include, but not be limited to:
- Provide technical support and expertise for heat treatment operations and associated processes through means of providing clear and concise manufacturing instructions, creating and maintaining standard procedures for working such as furnace loading sheets and press quench set-up sheets.
- Utilise existing strategies and develop strategies for improving product quality within the Heat Treatment area to reduce non-conformance through addressing the causes of Distortion, providing focus where needed to provide right first time First Off results and consistent conforming product.
- Develop knowledge and expertise of tooling requirements for Heat Treatment operations- including Press Quench Fixtures, maintaining standard location and cost reduction support.
- Develop create & implement best practice working environments and working practices for sustained standard practices. – ensuring NADCAP requirements are met, implementing drives for inspection rationalisation and tolerance evaluation at HT stage inspection.
- Keep up to date with advances and improvements in specific technology through seminars, working parties, other experts and training courses.
- Develop and deliver improvement action plans and initiatives in Heat Treatment.
- Ensure departmental procedures are maintained, and created in support of process improvements sustainability, including but not limited to tooling condition monitoring, Manufacturing Engineering standard text and process instructions.
- Deliver process improvements based on knowledge and new technology being developed in industry.
- Provide technical expertise to Manufacturing and Design Engineers to help ensure product planning and design definitions meet the requirements for Heat Treatment.
- Update manufacturing layouts as and where required to ensure Heat Treatment operation instructions are in line with best practice. Producing rework planning documentation as and where required.
