Description:

Purpose: Performs field and sustainment level maintenance and recovery on the M1, M2, M109, M992 and M88 family of vehicles; including automotive, turret, hull, carriage-mounted armament, associated fire control systems, and chemical protection subsystems Maintains diesel power plants/packs, compression ignition engines and engine fuel systems, air induction systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, engine starting and charging systems, track hull electrical and hydraulic systems, automatic cross drive transmission assemblies, auxiliary drive assemblies, track vehicle suspension and suspension lock out systems, mechanical/hydraulic steering and braking systems, fire extinguisher/suppression systems and gas particulate filter systems. Diagnoses malfunctions, troubleshoots and performs other field and sustainment maintenance on carriage-mounted armament, associated fire control and related systems and components.

  • Diagnoses system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies.
  • Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TM).
  • Inspects, repairs, and replaces components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.
  • Identifies parts in repair manuals and places order request for needed parts.
  • Performs scheduled services on equipment fleet.
  • Performs road test on vehicles after repairs and services have been completed.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a daily timesheet and daily manning report and ensuring times are accurate.
  • All APS-2 contractor mechanics are expected to provide their own basic mechanics tool set.

Qualification & Experience Requirements: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • 6 years’ experience as a mechanic is required.
  • 4 years’ specialized experience working with heavy equipment track vehicles equivalent to the M1A2, M2A3, M109A6
  • Army MOS 91A/91M/91P is preferred
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a US Passport

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must have the ability to analyze and interpret U.S. Army Technical Manuals with relation to vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • May be required to obtain a military driver’s license (OF 346).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:1) PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Stooping, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds by themselves-51+ with the assistance of another person, touching dexterity (hand and finger), carrying, clear seeing-general, close vision, color perception, clear speech, driving vehicle, moving objects.
  • Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively up to a 48-hour work week
