A bit about your role
Nbn co. operates a network that provides wholesale services to various service providers. The network uses different delivery methods and technologies, including, but not limited to, FTTP, FTTB, FTTN, HFC, Copper Last Mile, Wireless, and Satellite. The Field Operations Team handles customer service, service activation, network assurance, maintenance, modernization, and quality audits across all technologies. Field Engineers play a crucial role in ensuring network quality, making technical decisions, and mentoring other Field technicians.
Due to the demanding project work on our active network, our Field Engineers operate on a 24/7 roster which may involve frequent night as well as participating in an on-call roster.

The role would see you:

  • Manage and conduct equipment and system level Service Assurance activities in the field
  • Quality improvement of Active network construction activities and investigation of early-onset faults
  • Provide on-site, complex, technical, and ad-hoc network support
  • Resolve technical escalations from Customer Field Technicians
  • Perform end user installation and assurance activities
  • Provide support for changes or upgrade to network elements
  • Fluent in HFC outside plant construction, Network Remediation including Network Assurance
  • Understand HFC testing principals, DOCSIS 3.1 and RF fundamentals
  • Conduct HFC routine maintenance and restoration activities including amplifier alignment and egress repairs
  • Provide support for changes or upgrades to network elements
  • Work within the confines of SLA, OLA and CRQ timeframes
  • Be knowledgeable in basic HFC design principals
  • Have a background in basic fibre optics
  • Ability to assure the network from CMTS to CM
  • Ensure injury risks and environmental impacts are effectively identified and managed by applying the nbn HSE management system and operating safely in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with safe work practices, ensuring alignment and taking personal responsibility for working safely.
  • Maintain required Safety training currency and accreditations, as directed and within required timeframes.
  • Cross skilled across other technologies to support future expansion and network evolution

A bit about you
You would come from a technical field background, ideally with strong network assurance experience in one or more nbn technologies such as HFC ISP, Ethernet, DWDM, GPON or VDSL. Having outside plant build experience across Fibre, HFC or Copper network builds would be beneficial.
You will be a natural problem solver with a methodological approach and have an aptitude to learn quickly. Your ability to be flexible, adaptable and be able to cope with conflicting priorities will also see you succeed in this role. Given the nature of this role you will be a highly organised team player, with the ability to adapt to a changing and dynamic work environment
