Description:

We are excited to provide this highly challenging but rewarding opportunity for a Band 8a Highly Specialist Clinical / Counselling Psychologist to join one of our Recovery Teams covering the North of Newham.
Newham is a borough rich in cultural diversity, with significant South Asian (Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani) and Black African and Black Caribbean communities. Approximately seven in ten residents of Newham are from ethnically diverse communities speaking over 220 languages and dialects.
The candidate will therefore be supported to ensure psychological interventions meet the cultural needs of individuals and family members as well as being evidence-based. As such, potential candidates will have had experience in developing their own cultural competencies as well as offering psychological interventions that are sensitive to the person’s context, including the experience of racism, migration and power. An ability to reflect on one’s own practice and aspects of difference is essential for the post.
The Recovery Team provides specialist assessment and intervention for adults with significant mental health support needs who require a longer term service.
Given the complexity of our service users presenting problems, the post holder is required to possess good engagement skills and the ability to work alongside service users and their families towards clear and collaboratively agreed recovery goals.
To provide specialist assessment and delivery of individual and family interventions for adults with complex mental health problems.
Supporting MDT staff in psychological formulation and delivery of “low intensity” interventions. Contributing to ensuring that the team’s work as a whole is psychologically informed where possible.
To provide supervision for the team’s PSI workers.
Liaising with statutory services and local community services including Early Intervention in Psychosis Services, Acute Mental Health Services, Home Treatment Team and the Secondary Care Psychology Service (SPS).
To contribute to the effective working of the team or service and to a psychologically informed framework for the service.
To contribute to service development through undertaking and participating in appropriate projects.
To provide supervision for trainee clinical psychologists.
Our mission is to make a positive difference to people’s lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
