Description:

JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our small and friendly community team in the London borough of Sutton. We are a community based service providing clinic and domiciliary support under Sutton Health and Care (attached to Epsom and St Helier NHS trust).
The post holder will provide an evidence-based service that anticipates and responds to the needs of children with complex needs requiring assessment and access to Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems (AAC). They will work in partnership with children, their families and with other professions and agencies to reduce the impact of these difficulties on children’s social and emotional development, their learning and their ability to participate in daily life.
The postholder will also be involved alongside the team leaders in the development and delivery of a new pathway aimed at using Parent Child Interaction therapy to support families of children with complex needs.

Responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

To assess, diagnose, treat and manage a caseload of children with complex health and learning needs requiring AAC
To provide training as required to enable SLT programmes to be implemented as part of children’s therapy package.
To deliver a pilot project running PCI workshops with parents and evaluating the effectiveness
To be involved in planning the development of the SLT service in liaison with the SLT Team Leader.
To offer second opinions and advice to staff writing SLT statutory assessment advice.
To be accountable for own professional action and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.
To work across agreed clinical populations, to manage the implementation of a service that is targeted to need, and supports and empowers families, to improve health and life chance outcomes for children, by giving every child the opportunity to develop their potential; ensuring early detection and referral of problems.
To participate as a full Sutton Health and Care SLT Team member.
