Description:
Are you looking for a new challenge?
Would you like to shape and develop an exciting, new SLT service?
The Adult Speech and Language Therapy Department is delighted to present a newly funded Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy position for the new Frailty Unit at Morriston Hospital.
This post has become available as a result of Swansea Bay UHB’s integrated frailty service development with creation of a dedicated frailty unit. The SLT will join a specialist MDT of geriatricians, nurses and therapists to provide the targeted care this population needs from the offset. It will provide comprehensive geriatric assessment with specialty in-reach and continuity of care across admission areas and wards to reduce length of stay and prevent unnecessary admissions.
The successful candidate will join our welcoming and forward-thinking adult team to lead and deliver Speech and Language Therapy provision to the Frailty Unit. They will have the unique opportunity to shape this service, providing rapid and comprehensive dysphagia and communication assessment and management to patients in the unit.
We wish to recruit a dynamic and highly motivated Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist, who ideally has experience of working with the frailty population and an understanding of acute service priorities: or with demonstrable transferrable skills.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and pro-active with excellent organisational and clinical skills to work within this fast-paced setting. The successful candidate will be hard working, flexible and innovative with exceptional communication and team working skills. They will have an interest and experience in data collection and service improvement.
The post holder will independently manage a clinical caseload of patients on a daily basis, utilising advanced prioritisation and decision-making skills. They will be responsible for the delivery of highly specialised assessment and treatments for patients on the frailty unit; providing specialist advice to members of the MDT, carer providers and families. Multi-disciplinary working will be imperative with a keen focus on admission avoidance, quality improvement & providing exceptional patient centred care from initial assessment through to complex discharge planning with consultants and community partners.
