In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in the detailed design activities for highway projects as per the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) manuals, design standards and guidelines.
  • Attending project meetings with clients, public stakeholders, and other team members.
  • Coordinating within the design team and assisting Project Engineers/Designers and Project Managers with project-specific design and day-to-day project design activities.
  • Assisting in developing quantity takeoff and cost estimates.
  • Assisting in-field review/investigation of existing conditions of the highways and compiling field review reports.
  • Coordinating with the utility companies/representatives/owners and assisting in organizing on-site utility coordination meetings.
  • Continuously growing professional skills and knowledge through seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on the latest trends, software, and technology.
  • Assisting with other related assignments within the scope of the Transportation Infrastructure Design practice area.

The qualifications you need:

  • Postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation, or a related field.
  • Work experience, engineering interns or Co-op work terms in the design of MTO Highway projects is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of Transportation Engineering principles and Jurisdictional Design Guidelines (e.g. TAC, MTO, OPSD, AODA).
  • Good knowledge of highway design principles (alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, roadside safety, quantity takeoff calculation, pavement marking, signage, and constructability).
  • Practical experience in the use of one or more of the industry-relevant software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, and/or InRoads/OpenRoads).
  • Strategic and process-oriented mindset, comfortable operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong team player and capable of working independently with little oversight.
  • Excellent prioritization skills with a focus on task management.
  • Detail-oriented with commendable problem-solving abilities.

LEA’s highways sector is growing! Become part of our growing team of engineers and designers and help improve our highways throughout the province of Ontario. In this role, you will work on a variety of Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) projects. These include rehabilitation/resurfacing of highways/roadways including highway interchanges and road intersections.
