Description:
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As a Highways Maintenance Technician your focus will be on the development of carriageway, footway, cycleways and all highways and open space assets to ensure the people that live and work here are able to travel across South Gloucestershire safely and efficiently.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- You must hold a degree level or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or have have experience in a variety of highway maintenance processes, able to use systems and process to construct, monitor and maintain programmes of work through a priority matrix, against a monitored budget.
- We require you to be able to demonstrate highway related knowledge regarding best practice of maintenance design principles and process and have an understanding of asset management principles and life cycle planning.
- You will be confident to communicate programmes of work, anticipated budget spend profiles and site constraints to operations teams, as well as explaining priority sites to interested parties and make decisions relating to changing circumstances.
- You must be experience in dealing with measurement, valuation and estimating of scheme costs, together with the ability to transfer these to IT mediums for effective communication and analysis.
- It is essential that you are confident in the use of various software packages including Microsoft office, data bases and mapping systems.
- You must hold a full UK Driving Licence or able to travel to various locations across South Glos.
Responsibilities:
- In the role you will provide project briefs to the Design and Operations team and technical specifications for works to specialist maintenance contractors and provide regular feedback to customers and internal departments.
- Attending sites, you will assess the condition and any associated risks, gather and review data and analysis to assess any problems. It will be your responsibility to make decisions about technical issues, making recommendations and clear options within professional legislation and codes of practice.
- You will ensure that data from condition surveys, scrim surveys and other sources are assessed and rated, and prioritise and reorganise programmes in line with changing financial restraints.
- Working with with colleagues and other organisations, you will provide and receive information, support and guidance and liaise with customers, partners and external contacts to keep them informed about specific situations.
- Keeping records up to date on software packages is essential, as you will be responsible for ensuring the asset register data base is current and accurate.
