THIS IS A FULL-TIME PERMANENT SEASONAL AUXILIARY POSITION WORKING 75 HOURS BI-WEEKLY SEASONALLY FROM MAY 1, 2024 TO NOVEMBER 31, 2024.

At Tourism and Culture, we are a dynamic team of professionals who are dedicated to the Yukon’s vibrant tourism, arts, museums, heritage, historic sites, and archival communities and to their contributions to Yukon’s quality of life and prosperity.
The Historic Sites Inventory Technician is responsible for the updating and maintenance of the Yukon Historic Sites Inventory and related databases through historical research, site inspections and field surveys. The incumbent should have a strong knowledge of Yukon’s history and geography. The Historic Sites Inventory Technician will deliver information about Yukon’s historic resources, promoting the benefits of heritage conservation and provide information on programs and services of the Historic Sites Unit.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who have relevant experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.

  • Post-secondary diploma in heritage conservation, land management or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience documenting historic sites or other land based resources in rural and remote settings.
  • Experience researching and writing technical documents and reports to support land management.
  • Experience using GIS mapping software.
  • Experience working with environmental and socio-economic assessment processes may be considered an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team;
  • Strong time-management skills;
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate this data and identify gaps;
  • Strong computer skills and experience working with a variety of programs, including GIS software, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and historic sites databases.
  • Knowledge of Yukon History

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete required field safety training and to follow field safety protocols when working in remote locations.
  • Lifting of backpacks and equipment up to 30lbs.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, insects, pests, and mold (with protective equipment).
  • Travel to various communities and remote locations in Yukon, using various modes of ground, water and air transportation for periods up to 10 days at a time in a remote field camp setting.
    Relocation: This position is not eligible for paid relocation.
