We have a new opportunity for an experienced HR Advisor to join our team at the Port of Tilbury.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a varied HR role, and the person joining will provide a proactive, professional and people-centred HR advisory service to a wide range of stakeholders across the port.
The role will be heavily involved in employee relations / industrial relations topics and will involve close liaison with Trade Unions, therefore experience in both is essential to be considered.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Provide proactive generalist and operational HR advice aligned to business plans and priorities, including but not limited to Company Policy, salary administration and employment legislation. Ensure advice is effective, meets the business need and is legally compliant.
  • Support Line Management through Disciplinary, Grievance and Bullying & Harassment cases appropriately, robustly and consistently. Providing advice to support the application of company policies and timely management of cases, ensuring the issue of good, legally compliant and literate documentation.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Union Representatives, ensuring that regular communication occurs as per individual area agreements.
  • Facilitate discussions with management teams relating to staff welfare, organisational design and work force development through regular communication and relationship building.
  • Work closely with assets to manage headcount, identifying actual and planned recruitment requirements. Provide advice on terms and conditions of role, salary benchmarking and organisational design.
  • Liaise with Talent and Acquisition team to ensure vacancy adverts and job specifications attract top talent.
  • Work in conjunction with the wider HR team to ensure each new starter has a robust on-boarding program, to include signing off contract offers and ensuring induction is arranged. Ensure all contract documentation is legally compliant and meets best practice.
  • Work with Line Management to plan and implement revisions to working arrangements/rosters/job requirements to suit the business need.
  • Manage redundancy and restructuring programmes, ensuring proper liaison with Union Reps in areas where collective bargaining applies.
  • Maintain knowledge of legislative changes and employment law case decisions, review and asses how these changes should be incorporated into Company policy.Maintain knowledge of legislative changes and employment law case decisions, review and asses how these changes should be incorporated into Company policy.
  • Collaborate with the wider HR team to continuously develop and maintain HR metrics and reports, enabling the team to provide insights and recommendations to improve process and practices.
  • Gather, analyse and present data to Line Managers and the wider HR Team, to support current and future priorities.
  • Assist with all preparation for ET cases and attend these cases as required.
  • Assist the HR Manager with preparing for negotiation meetings with the Unions for Collective Bargaining discussions.
  • Manage to delivery relevant HR projects that support the strategic people plan, utilising expertise across the department to ensure success.
  • Coach and support all levels of line managers, using appropriate tools and knowledge to effectively manage their people in line with people plans and priorities.
