Job Summary: The HR Generalist I assists in the administration of human resources policies, procedures, and programs. Carries out responsibilities in one or more of the following functional areas: employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, or employment.
Additional Department Summary: The HR Generalist I, Intercollegiate Athletics provides a variety of both complex and routine human resources guidance, advice, and services to Intercollegiate Athletics staff and management. Ensures compliance with university policies, procedures and practices and federal and state regulations. Analyzes problems and concerns in order to formulate a recommended solution on routine human resources issues in the areas of organizational structure, employment, benefits, compensation, employee relations, employee retention, training and policy guidance to management on organizational and departmental issues and needs. This position will be responsible for maintaining the electronic personnel files and departmental salary spreadsheet, assembling data as requested by Executive staff.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher and some human resources experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Must possess the following skills and attributes: strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization; demonstrated ability to work independently; take initiative and perform effectively in fast-paced and constantly changing environment; effective oral and written communication skills; high level of skills in handling sensitive and confidential situations/information with the demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality; working knowledge and experience with MS Office; ability to research and analyze data; ability to coach employees and supervisors/managers through routine situations and to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with university standards, practices, policies, procedures as well as state and federal regulations.
Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, or related field. Professional level experience in at least three of the primary HR functional areas: benefits, compensation, recruitment, employee relations, or training. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.
