Description:

SLACAN Industries Inc. is Canada’s largest designer and manufacturer of Pole line Hardware, which includes a full line of Transmission and Distribution products. We service the OEM market including the agricultural, mining and other industries. Our in-house processes include forgings, hot / cold stampings and weldments.
Our Company is currently looking for a HR Generalist to join our team!
Note: this is a fully on-site position

POSITION OVERVIEW

As our HR Generalist, you will help the employees at Slacan with their day to day questions; collaborate with hiring managers to bring best talent to the team and lead lots of other projects building some of them from scratch. This is an opportunity for someone with “people first” mindset and eagerness to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
This position reports to the Human Resources Manager and will be supporting a unionized facility. As a “true” Generalist your responsibilities will range from; full cycle-recruitment, performance management, payroll, employee relations, training & development, HRIS, disability management and labour relations.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • 1 year of experience in a Human Resources role or combination of internship/co-op and relevant education
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or certificate in HR or related field;
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation an asset.
  • Knowledge of ESA, Human Rights Code, OHSA, WSIB Regulations and other related legislation pertaining to workplace Human Resources

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the Slacan full cycle recruitment program for both hourly and salary positions, ensuring our Company is recruiting and selecting the best possible talent.
  • Responsible for managing and processing payroll for both salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accurate and timely payment in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Assist in the implementation and communication/training of all HR policies and procedures
  • Advise and support all levels to ensure fair and equitable application of policies and procedures.
  • Employment legislation knowledge including Employment Standards Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and Human Rights legislation, and maintain compliance of necessary standards.
  • Foster positive employee relations and effectively manage employee relations issues. Assisting with employee complaint and investigation process, advising on conflict management, and assisting Supervisor with corrective action preparation
  • Benefit administration for salary and hourly employees
  • Assist with the Early and Safe Return to Work/Disability management programs. Ensuring timelines are met and proper follow up has been maintained
  • Backup for Health and Safety
  • Maintain and improve HR Standard Materials (correspondence, job descriptions, forms, policies, procedures, PowerPoints, checklists, contracts, employee file). Ensuring all are up to date and in electronic format.
  • Participate in various Human Resources initiatives and projects in support of Company goals
  • Support the development of an annual performance management process for all employees, as well as the development of employee programs (attendance awards, years of service, etc.)
  • Create quarterly updates, working with all departments on articles/communication for posting.
  • Perform all other duties assigned
