Description:

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree OR combination of education and experience equaling 4 years or more.
Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of employees.
Demonstrated skill sets pertaining to time management and attention to accuracy/details.
Proficient skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), as well as Google applications.
Outstanding customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. data manipulation, pivot tables, queries, etc.)
High level experience with time management skills and attention to accuracy/details.
Previous experience using HRMS/Payroll systems, such as PeopleSoft.
Bachelor’s degree in HR management or related HR or business coursework.

SUMMARY:

The MNPI Administration Center and BioGen Center combine to make up the Basic Sciences, a research hub within the University of Minnesota Medical School. We are growing and looking to hire an entry level HR Business Partner! This position will provide day-to-day HR support for the Basic Sciences HR Team, through the coordination and administration of a variety of HR activities for one or more of all University employee groups (Faculty, P&A, Civil Service, Labor Represented, Trainees, Students, etc.). This position will also provide payroll support to the Basic Science’s Payroll Coordinator. This is an opportunity for someone just starting out in an HR career, or someone jumping back in after a break. We are an experienced and supportive team, and looking for someone who could be ready for growth over the next few years, as our departments continue to expand.
This is a hybrid position, working remotely around 90% of your time with the occasional Center-wide in-person meetings or as requested based on departmental needs.
Starting pay for this position will be around $55,000 annually, based on qualifications.
Major Responsibilities/Duties
Recruitment (40%)
Manage the full cycle hiring process for temp casual and student employees, including HR onboarding.
Assist with the departmental hiring process for regular staff positions including job postings, resume screening, interview scheduling, salary analysis, employee demographics, seniority, offer letters, appointment entry, on-boarding/off-boarding, I-9s, etc.
HR Process Coordination (10%)
Serve as a backup HR partner providing cross coverage as needed.
Assist in management of annual performance reviews and probationary reviews (PAT).
Assist with HR document retention, including employee files and Perceptive Content.
Visa Process Coordination (10%)
Prepares, processes, coordinates immigration and job specific documents with employees/new hires, managers, and Medical School visa specialists.
Performs detailed review of immigration documents to ensure accuracy in conjunction with counsel and assists in obtaining necessary signatures.
Communicate with visa holders and supervisors with regular updates on timelines.
Human Resources Data Management (15%)
Gathering data, creating, and disseminating reports as requested, and assisting in creating/implementing process improvement.
Create and disperse complex correspondence, which may include confidential/sensitive communications, training materials, defined HR cyclical processes, etc.
Responsible for managing processes for terminations or transfers for staff and student employees.
Payroll Support (25%)
Provides backup support reviewing and entering PeopleSoft appointments, time and attendance, and payroll entries. Audits pre-payroll confirmation reports, abstracts, and other records to assure accuracy while cross-checking entries done by other staff.
Maintains data integrity in HRMS by conducting routine audits and analyzing data from a variety of reports; ensures changes are incorporated so systems are compliant with all payroll policies.
Performs review of time reporting, verification, file imports, and balancing for accuracy to ensure internal controls are followed and audit requirements are met.
Responsible for finding potential discrepancies and resolving discrepancies or errors appropriately through analysis of problems and coordination with employees and supervisors.
