To support these efforts, Stantec is seeking an individual to facilitate the development, continuous improvement, and implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) written programs practices within our HSSE Services team. Under the direction of the Director, HSSE Services, the HSSE Manager will support the organization in day-to-day operations by working collaboratively with business unit and world-wide regional teams to review and improve existing written programs and practices. This role will be based from one of our North America locations.
YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS
- Strong preference for formal education in health & safety, a professional HSSE designation (CIH, CSP), or in process of acquiring
- Practical application of occupational health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices, in multiple jurisdictions
- Strong leadership skills, attention to detail, the capability to assess and organize priorities, and to work independently
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities; and the ability to build and contribute to a positive team atmosphere
- Ability to understand and adjust communication style to suit the audience
- Computer proficiency with the Office 365 suite of services
- Preference for experience with the following:
- Large, multi-disciplinary organization
- HSSE documentation and program development
- Training and public speaking
- Environmental controls and/or management systems
- Multi-jurisdictional experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related fieldA Bachelors degree and 10 years of experience in an HSSE role, preferably management level or a Masters degree and 5 years of experience in an HSSE role.

Responsibilities:
The HSSE Manager (Program & Practice) will provide a full range of HSSE services which may include the following:
- Lead and supervise the HSSE Program & Practice team. Responsibilities within the group include: regulatory review, development and revision of programs and practices, documentation, communications, and training related to Stantec’s HSSE programs and practices.
- Coordinate and connect with Quality team as an audit partner for internal and external services.
- Build trust and relationships with operational leadership, functional service team partners, and HSSE practitioners throughout the organization.
- Keep up to date on emerging trends, regulations, and HSSE best practices within the business.
- Work in cooperation with HSSE Operations directors, regional HSSE managers and advisors, and HSSE team members worldwide
- Lead or contribute to HSSE Program & Practice initiatives as determined by the Director, HSSE Services.
- Work with the HSSE team to communicate and implement policies, programs, and practices in line with the HSSE business and communications plan.
- Where required, assist in planning and supporting ISO audit activities.
