Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Employee Relations, the Human Resources Advisor, Employee Relations, Retention and Resources is responsible for effective collaboration with Deans, Directors, Managers, and other members of the Human Resources team as well as consultation with faculty and staff to accomplish the College’s goals and strategies consistent with the College’s Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Directions, and consistent with the Post-Secondary Employers Association (PSEA) directives and policy.
The Human Resources Advisor, Employee Relations, Retention and Resources acts as a key resource for the Manager, Employee Relations in a variety of employee relations and labour relations activities and will provide support and advice to College administrators and also engage with faculty union representatives to respond to and resolve disagreements as they arise. Working collaboratively with other Human Resources team members, an instrumental role will also be played in the development and implementation of comprehensive employee orientation and onboarding programs, supporting recruitment of exempt administrators and faculty, and the development and delivery of training, engagement and culture-building initiatives.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years relevant post-secondary qualifications or equivalent training (diploma or degree in Human Resources or Business preferred) CHRP designation an asset.
  • 3-5 years of recent experience working in a human resources role with similar job responsibilities, preferably in post-secondary environment or multi union public sector employer.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication (written and oral), negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement and model professional, ethical and collaborative behaviours, including dealing effectively with conflicting expectations and resistance.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in human resources processes and employee relations in a unionized work environment, including recruitment, retention, labour relations, collective bargaining, and training and development functions.
  • Significant knowledge and maintenance of currency with legislation and regulations governing unionized and non-unionized employees in British Columbia.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to change and to learn new processes, methodologies or technologies.
