POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, the HR Assistant will provide generalist support and collaborates closely with HR Business Partners and their assigned Department Managers in the areas of recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits, disability management, training & development, performance management and terminations.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the recruitment cycle and onboarding process, including HR orientation.
  • Process termination files and conduct exit interviews
  • Assist Human Resources Business Partner and Managers with employee relations and individual Development Plans
  • Coordination of internal and external training needs
  • Assists and follow on Canada-Alberta Job Grant applications.
  • Prepare file reviews for Human Resources Manager
  • Monitor and follow up on employee health or injury related leaves.
  • Assist supervisors/managers with Return-To-Work accommodation or modified duties
  • Ensure employee complaints are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare employment verification letters
  • Verify Criminal record check through a third-party contractor.
  • Work with managers to ensure job descriptions are current
  • Prepare probationary and annual employee performance reviews reports for managers.
  • Coordinate in- house training (i.e HR Orientations, sexual harassment, cultural competency, etc)
  • Collaborate with department managers address performance related issues.
  • Work closely with HR Business Partners to improve HR processes and procedures.
  • Enroll employees in eligible benefits in accordance with benefits policy
  • Maintain employee benefits records in the HRIS and ensure all benefit information is current and accurate.
  • Assist submitting WCB forms on line and managing disability files.
  • Assist in locker assignments and record them in the spreadsheet.
  • Other related duties as requested

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Working towards a certificate or diploma in a human resources program
  • Minimum of one year of administrative experience.
  • Experience with a Human Resource Management System (ie. Ceridian) is an asset
  • Experience with Crystal Reports is an asset.
  • Experience with an Applicant Tracking System is an asset
  • Knowledge of applicable HR legislation (Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights, Workers Compensation Board) is an asset
  • Experience working in a highly confidential environment
  • Experience working on a First Nation community is an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong computer proficiency (ie. Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with managers
  • Ability to provide a customer-focused approach to both internal and external customers.
