ACCO Brands is seeking a talented and motivated Human Resources Generalist to support our corporate and unionized manufacturing employees. Working in a matrix organization, you will join the Canadian Human Resource team, headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, and will also be part of our global Human Resources group. This gives you the opportunity to partner with our shared services teams in the execution of daily tasks as well as providing the opportunity to participate in exciting regional projects. The Generalist will work in the areas of talent acquisition, learning and development, employee relations, labour relations and culture and engagement. They will also administer our health and welfare programs and support employee recognition initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration / Commerce or equivalent work experience
  • CHRP designation or working toward
  • 2-3 years of Generalist level experience supporting corporate clientele & unionized manufacturing employees
  • Knowledge of provincial labour/employment laws, stays abreast of HR trends/legislative developments
  • Sound knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including talent acquisition, employee/labour relations, learning and development, total rewards
  • Experience working with HR information systems, talent acquisitions systems and Microsoft office suite
  • Demonstrates excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships across levels and functions
  • Ability to garner trust and provide sound counsel and coaching

Talent Acquisition

  • Lead the full cycle recruiting process for specified salaried office roles and all union plant roles: confirm recruiting strategy, coach managers on the recruiting process, develop job descriptions, source and interview candidates, deliver offers. Liaise with the recruiting agency to fulfill temp labour needs.
  • Ensure the successful onboarding of all new hires and a positive employee experience: conduct HR orientation, develop and provide managers with tools and guidance, assist in the procurement of I.T. resources and system access, all while driving process improvements.
  • Manage the student internship program and be an Ambassador for ACCO Brands. Work with functional managers to identify talent needs and partner with local universities and colleges to hire students to support the business across a variety of departments

Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition

Employee Relations

  • Administer leave programs such as sick leave / short-term disability, as well as leaves offered under the ESA for both office and union employee groups. Complete claims documentation, track leaves, and liaise with employee and management on backfilling / return to work planning.
  • Administer the group health and retirement plans: process enrolments, changes, terminations, respond to queries from active members and retirees. Assist employees in understanding the organizations benefits offerings and act as a liaison between the organization and third-party benefits providers.
  • Process employee lifecycle changes in the HRM system (ie. new hires, roles changes, status changes, terminations, etc.) and maintain employee records.
  • Develop and distribute employee communications (ie. onboarding, exits, org announcements, program updates, etc)
  • Provide ad hoc HR analytics and reporting as required.

Labour Relations

  • Administer the local collective bargaining agreement including facilitation of the following processes: job postings, wage progressions, cross training, attendance management, incident investigations, discipline.
  • Lead monthly union management meetings and actively participate in the collective bargaining process, sitting alongside senior management during negotiations.

Culture, Engagement and Training

  • Support corporate driven culture initiatives in the areas of engagement, diversity and inclusion and change management: participate in projects, apply principles and methodologies, provide local assistance to ensure successful launches.
  • Support local and corporate training requirements: assist with training delivery (ie. Code of Conduct/Workplace Violence and Harassment), offer input into content
  • Participate in organizing and coordinating company social events and milestone celebrations.
