SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for a wide variety of human resources activities for the College across multiple functions including but not limited to talent acquisition, benefits & wellbeing, onboarding, offboarding, training, compliance, and enforcing the institution’s policies and practices. The HR Generalist has the knowledge and ability to perform all duties and responsibilities but is assigned duties in specific areas as the primary day-to-day tasks. Collaborates with others within the Human Resources team and campus stakeholders to provide a consistent and effective team approach that enables our campus customers to do impactful, mission-driven work. This position has a dual reporting relationship to the Human Resources Directors.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Executes the daily HR operations, which may include answering employee questions, talent acquisition, onboarding, offboarding, benefits, wellbeing, employee relations, training, and internal College communications on HR related matters.
  • Serves as a point of contact for employees/visitors to the HR office and provides direction to the appropriate team member for assistance. Responds to the HR main line phone and HR service tickets (TDX) by resolving any requests or routing for response by appropriate colleague.
  • Assists with the staff and faculty recruitment process of candidates to fill vacancies. This includes posting job requisitions, screening resumes and applications, prescreening potential candidates, scheduling interviews, interviewing candidates, and coordinating with search committees as needed.
  • Maintains HR-related compliance for the College in conjunction with campus HR which may include overseeing criminal background checks, verifying I-9s, compiling HR metrics and data from a variety of sources including the human resource information system (HRIS) and payroll outputs, management and employee surveys, exit interviews, employment records, government labor statistics, and other sources.
  • Assists with the onboarding of new part-time and full-time talent including collecting required paperwork, facilitating new hire orientation, benefits enrollment and training.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Assists with the electronic records management system, including scanning and indexing of HR documents and managing and maintaining the electronic personnel file system (OnBase).
  • Assists employees with benefit and wellbeing related questions and processes including eligibility, plan details, coverage changes, claims issues, and premium calculations.
  • Assists with the updating and maintenance of HR web page content, ticketing system and employee portal content and creates and updates electronic forms for various HR processes.
  • Acts as a coordinator and administrator for employee leaves of absence.
  • Serves as a resource and main point of contact for HR policy/procedure clarification and as an advisor for other departments while handling employee relations issues and when appropriate, escalating issues to the Directors of Human Resources as needed.
  • Responds to data requests as assigned by using our reporting system including, but not limited to employment verifications, mandatory system, federal and state reports, surveys, etc.
  • Serves as a contact to employees terminating employment, communicates benefit exit information to offboarding employees, and ensures data is updated in appropriate systems in a time sensitive manner.
  • Manages special projects and/or events such as training programs, annual benefits enrollment, social media updates, employee recognition, etc. as needed.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Collaborates with the risk management team as needed and may serve as back-up coordinator for worker’s compensation claims.
  • Collaborates with payroll and employee records team on bi-weekly and monthly payroll activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. May accept experience in place of some or all of the educational requirements.
  • 2+ years of increasingly responsible professional experience in human resources or related area preferred, preferably in higher education or similar setting.
