Description:

The Human Resources Manager oversees staffing policies, improves employee relations and works with the Director of Human Resources to assess workforce management, including compensation review, promotions, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies. The Human Resources Manager will ensure compliance with industry regulations, keep detailed records of job descriptions, schedule interviews for job candidates and conduct onboarding and new employee orientations. They will field complaints from employees and use a structured system to respond to any issues within Mersey Seafoods and/or related companies.
We are looking for that special person who has years of HR experience and education behind them and is also personable and able to relate to whomever they’re talking with. That special person who can join in on the laughter and also address challenges with professionalism and fairness. Someone who has the ability to coach managers through tough employee issues and do the right things for the right reasons.

Regular travel within Nova Scotia will be required for this role (20-40%).
Mersey Seafoods’ head office is in Liverpool, NS with a satellite office in Bedford, NS. The successful candidate must be available to be based out of one of these two locations. As we prefer to work collaboratively and face-to-face, this role is an in-office/on-site position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or diploma in human resources management, business administration or a related field required.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience in a human resources specialist, generalist and/or manager position.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strategic objectives for HR and the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage HR core processes such as talent management, succession planning, and employee relations.
  • Able to make sound business decisions and evidence-based recommendations to senior management.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Sound leadership, staff management, and teambuilding skills.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills with Microsoft 365 required.
  • Able to interpret and implement workforce related legislation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour laws and desire to stay up-to-date with current employment law.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
    Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

A LIST OF THE BASIC DUTIES OF THE ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Manage the staffing process, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring and onboarding.
  • Ensure job descriptions are up to date.
  • Develop training programs that are based on identified gaps and best practices.
  • Ensure the organization’s compliance with provincial regulations.
  • Use performance management tools to provide guidance and feedback to team.
  • Conduct performance and salary reviews
  • Administer progressive disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and resolve any conflicts that arise among staff.
  • Ensure all company HR policies are applied consistently.
  • Maintain company organization charts and employee directory.
  • Partner with Director of HR to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with business initiatives.
  • Maintain HR systems and processes.
  • Be the point of contact for inquiries with our HRIS.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits
  • Design and implement employee retention strategies
  • Provide leadership and coaching to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development.
