Description:

KEY FUNCTIONS:

The incumbent would have ultimate responsibility for all Human Resources functions for the Faculty. Management of HR Officers in the HR Division would be a key function.
The HR Division is responsible for providing a generalist Human Resources function to staff members in the Faculty’s Seven Schools and Research Entities. Functions include the recruitment and selection of academic and support staff, professorial appointments, benefits and conditions of service, bursary eligibility and applications, probation, promotions, transfers, and terminations. Other duties include advising on labour, staff, and remuneration issues, ensuring compliance with university and faculty-specific policies, as well as staff development and performance management. The successful candidate will liaise regularly with the Human Resources Directorate and the School and Entity Heads and will report directly to the Dean. The successful candidate will proactively facilitate employment equity.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or a related field is required. A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
• Professional Experience: A minimum of eight years working experience in the Human Resources field is required, with at least five years working experience at a middle management level. Working at a senior level in a university environment would be an advantage.
• Knowledge and Skills: A strong understanding of HR functions, including recruitment, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and labour laws. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are also crucial.
• Adaptability and Cultural Competence: The ability to adapt to a diverse academic environment and work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds is important.
• Computer skills: Proven competence in computer literacy is required. Experience working with Microsoft Office, and Oracle HR are required.
