Description:

SUMMARY

Reporting to the NWSCC Facilities Supervisor, the HVAC Oil Burner Technician (Facilities Maintenance Technician) is responsible for providing technical support on Facilities systems at the North Warning System (NWS) Long Range and Short Range Radar sites.

EDUCATION:

Valid 313A - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic
Valid Trade Certificate, Oil Burner Technician (OBT2 or OBT1).
Inter-Provincial Red Seal Journeymen’s Certificate of Qualification.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of five years of experience on the job training working in a commercial or industrial setting. Previous experience developing and conducting technical training would be an asset.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Strong knowledge of building HVAC/Heating and building structural systems, with ability to read and interpret related drawings and manuals.
  • Proficiency in the use of commercial test equipment and tools used in troubleshooting and repair of Facilities systems.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven communication, analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Maximo.
  • Customer service and detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Standard First Aid trained with CPR Level A (with valid certificate).
  • Hold a valid class ‘G’ driver’s license, or provincial/territorial equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain a Level II (Secret) Clearance or be eligible to obtain one. Approval of security clearance by the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the maintenance of North Warning System (NWS) systems, including but not limited to HVAC systems, heating systems, and other Facilities systems.
  • Conduct annual Federal Halocarbon Regulations leak tests on HVAC systems.
  • Perform annual preventive maintenance on HVAC and Heating systems at Long Range Radar (LRR) sites.
  • Analyze equipment failures to determine cause and recommends corrective action.
  • Assist in effecting design changes to improve equipment efficiency and/or reduce cost of operation.
  • Provide feedback to the Sustainment Services department on minor modifications, additional work projects and maintenance task reviews.
  • Keep performance and maintenance records on equipment.
  • Document and maintain facilities files as related to the work management system, work plans, field/incident reports, data analysis, etc.
  • Respond to emergency situations (unexpected failures)

SECONDARY DUTIES

  • Assist in the installation of NWS Facilities systems, including but not limited to HVAC systems, heating systems, and water/sewage systems.
  • Provide feedback on preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Site libraries.
  • Conduct environmental, safety, security and quality checks and audits, general housekeeping in support of a healthy and safe workplace environment and taking proactive and corrective measures in these areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned which are transient in nature.
