Description:

ABOUT US

National Gas is one organisation, formed of three businesses – National Gas Transmission, National Gas Services and National Gas Metering.
We are proud of our role at the heart of Britain’s energy system. Our skilled colleagues bring gas to around 23m homes and over 200,000 businesses, including heavy industries and power stations that keep the lights on, all whilst enabling the transition of our network to hydrogen.
We are a flexible working organisation. At National Gas, we are committed to building a workforce that represents the communities we serve. We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation, and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission and meet a good portion of our requirements, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities:

As a Hydrogen Development Engineer, you’re an idea generator and creator. Someone that can build, share, talk and think about designing an awesome future. From being inspired by Lego, influenced by John Rennie or motivated by Ada Lovelace, you’ll have a good understanding of design with an eye for detail, topped off with creativity and business sense. But above all, you’ll have heaps of passion to come up with the best ideas.
Project Union is our flagship programme to facilitate a low-cost, secure, and reliable route to net zero, empowering a UK hydrogen economy by repurposing existing pipelines to create a hydrogen ‘backbone’ for the UK by the early 2030s. We are looking for curious and enthusiastic people to join us at this pivotal time.
You’ll work on the early development stages of Project Union and related large-scale infrastructure projects. Delivering pre-Front End Engineering Design (Pre-FEED) studies, you’ll be working with internal and external experts to develop an appraised set of routing options for a national hydrogen backbone.
You’ll also be collaborating on regional infrastructure development projects, all of which form pieces of the puzzle that ultimately combine to create a unified hydrogen network for the UK.
You’ll work closely with various other departments and external stakeholders to guide your decision making and be proactive in seeking this support and information as you use your engineering and analytical capability to enable the development of the UK’s hydrogen transmission infrastructure of the future.
We have development engineers at various levels. Each role will involve technical report writing, collaboration with external partners and delivering pre-Front End Engineering Design (pre-FEED) studies for the delivery of Project Union.
You’ll need a curious mindset, an interest in Hydrogen, and an understanding of (pre) front-end engineering design. You’ll be excellent at communicating and technical report writing as you work on collaborative industry projects and assist Project Union’s technical workstreams to ensure coherent and coordinated outputs.
