About the Role

  • To provide education and training to medical students and other staff. This will be supervised by the University of Queensland. 50% of the FTE of the role will be for this purpose.
  • The appointee who is undertaking the Transitional Year of the CICM training will initially work on the Senior registrar roster. Over the course of the year, they will gradually progress under supervision and be given more responsibility. Towards the end of the year, if progress is satisfactory, they will work on the consultant roster under supervision. Progression of responsibility and level of supervision will be dependent on satisfactory performance.
  • The appointee who is not undertaking the Transitional Year of the CICM training will work on the registrar roster and be provided with supervision suitable for their level of training.
  • Provision of inpatient care including:
  • Assessing patients, determining, and instigating appropriate investigations
  • Establish management plan for patients in consultation with the consultant
  • Where appropriate, ensuring that discharge planning commences early in the process of care
  • Communicating assessment findings, proposed management plans and alternatives to patient and carers and seek consent
  • Gathering input from appropriate multidisciplinary team for patients ongoing clinical care
  • Continually monitoring and reviewing patient progress and adjusting the management plan when necessary
  • Ensuring appropriate and timely communication to health care providers and carers to ensure ongoing patient care post-hospital stay.
