Description:
The ICU ACCP role is a cutting-edge role in the field of critical care which crosses professional boundaries, undertaking traditional medical roles and leading inter-professional practice. It is a role model of excellence in the delivery of holistic care to patients. The (T) ACCP will learn to assess and treat many varied clinical cases. Learning to provide clinical expertise in developing and enhancing the Critical Care service, demonstrating advanced skills and competencies, and ensuring that evidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment. Working within local and nationally agreed protocols and guidelines, the (T) ACCP will develop knowledge and skills across the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical, leadership, education, and research. The (T) ACCP will learn to make independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of patients.
The trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner will develop generic and specialist knowledge and skills in Critical Care Medicine to provided healthcare autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team with a focus on Critical Care through an established ACCP training pathway.
The post holder will be a 1st level registered practitioner. They will have experience in working within Critical Care. They will have excellent communication skills, and be able to liaise with patients and their families in planning their healthcare needs. They will be expected to provide evidence of their ongoing continuing professional development.
Whilst in training the tACCP will undertake the MSc in Advanced Critical Care Practice. As well as the academic pathway the tACCP will follow the three year consultant-supported ACCP training program mapped against established national and regional competencies. The tACCP will gain the skills & knowledge under direct consultant supervision and supervision of the Clinical Lead to undertake clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with undiagnosed and undifferentiated conditions.
