What does an Independent Chair of the Audit Committee do at Hillingdon?
The Council is seeking an expression of interest from anyone wishing to be considered for the role of Independent Chair of the London Borough of Hillingdon’s Audit Committee. The role of Hillingdon’s Audit Committee is to review and monitor the Council’s audit, governance, risk management framework and the associated control environment, as an independent assurance mechanism. It also reviews and monitors the Council’s financial and non-financial performance to the extent that it affects the Council’s exposure to risk and/or weakens the control environment.
About you
Ideally the successful candidate will come from a financial background, have technical and analytical knowledge mixed with strong negotiation and relationship-building skills. Confidence and ability in chairing meetings is also sought.
To ensure independence, people applying who are currently elected Members or officers, or have been an elected Member or an officer of Hillingdon Council within the last five years will not be eligible to apply. In addition, neither relatives nor close friends of any Member or officers of Hillingdon Council will be considered and nor will anyone associated with any political party.
The Audit Committee meets 4 times a year, at the Civic Centre at Uxbridge and these meetings are held in public. There will also be a requirement to attend any training and briefings prior to these meetings with relevant Officers.
The post will attract an allowance of £3,180.83 per annum.
Interested suitably qualified persons are invited to submit an ‘expression of interest’ of no more than 500 words in length to the Clerk to the Audit Committee, Democratic Services, London Borough of Hillingdon, Civic Centre, High Street, Uxbridge, UB8 1UW or by email to: democratic@hillingdon.gov.uk
For more information about the role, please contact Lloyd White, Head of Democratic Services on 01895 250636 for an informal chat.
