Description:

INDEPENDENT MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Sheffield Hallam University Board of Governors are seeking two individuals who have substantial and broad experience in external organisations which are relevant to the University’s strategic aims and ambitions.
You should demonstrate a track record of achievement and contribution, which has national and international impact.

You will have:

  • an understanding of, and commitment to, the purposes of higher education;
  • the ability to take an independent and objective view;
  • the ability to take a strategic overview and contribute to the University’s strategic development.

In building its membership, the Board’s objective is to have a balance between locally, regionally and nationally based governors, and public, private and voluntary sector experience.
The membership will reflect a diversity of characteristics including gender, disability, age, race, and the representation of other minority communities. We actively encourage applications from women and minority ethnic applicants.

The Board is particularly seeking individuals who have experience and expertise in one of more areas of:

  • Higher Education curriculum delivery and quality assurance
  • Business and commerce
  • Finance and Audit
  • Estate and Property Development
  • Strategic oversight of IT including digital transformation programmes

Independent members of the Board must be:

  • over 18 years of age;
  • Not employed at the University;
  • Not a student at the University;
  • Not a serving elected member of a local or national authority (excluding Parish Councils).

Responsibilities:

Members will be invited to participate in regular and ad hoc University events.
These include the annual graduation ceremonies, civic functions and professorial and public lectures.
Board members also act as ambassadors for the University, and will be supported in promoting the University via their professional and social networks.
