Job Details:
Placement duration: September 2024 - July 2025
This role is for a fixed-term Placement position within the Software Engineering at Cubic Transportation Systems, working with a Principal Lead Software Engineer within the team.
The position will offer experience in the following areas, based on the job description of a Associate Software Engineer.
The role holder codes, debugs and performs development activities in accordance with designated standards and procedures. They work under supervision and exercise limited decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use current programming language and technologies to provide creative and practical solutions to a range of technical problems.
  • Develop and test applications and programs to support the company’s products.
  • Develop and test software programs following established quality standards and in accordance with internal engineering procedures including coding, unit testing and software configuration control.
  • Assist in the implementation of the content of high and low level detailed software design specifications, storyboards and interface specifications.
  • Provide support of products through conception to product delivery including problem solving, defect maintenance and support to customer services.
  • Keeps abreast of improvements and developments within software engineering.
  • Comply with Cubic’s values and adherence to all company policy and procedures. In particular comply with the code of conduct, quality, security and occupational health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Essential:

  • Being enrolled in a Computer Science or related degree that offers a placement year opportunity;
  • GCSE grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent education/experience
  • Current knowledge of programming language and technologies
  • Demonstrate the ability to problem solve and resolve issues

Desirable:

  • Experience of specification, design and development of software
  • Experience of working in an agile environment
