About the team you are joining
Reporting to the Area Manager, South West Pacific (Area Manager), the incumbent will be responsible for supporting and executing IATA’s activities in the South West Pacific, including the delivery of IATA’s agenda and the achievement of the set objectives for the area.

What your day would be like

  • Support the delivery of IATA’s agenda in the South West Pacific.
  • In conjunction with the Area Manager, build and maintain pro-active, professional and top management level relationships with member airlines, airports, senior government department officials and other industry stakeholders.
  • Support the Area Manager to actively advocate for and/or promote IATA’s policies, positions, objectives, activities, services and products amongst airlines, governments, regional organisations and other industry stakeholders, and coordinate with the Area Manager regarding the local implementation of global projects, programmes and campaigns.
  • Monitor and report on aero-political, economic and commercial developments in the area, taking or recommending actions which are consistent with IATA’s policies and objectives.
  • Working closely with the Area Manager, and given relevant market legislation, you will be working on all aspects of airport operations and flight safety. Specifically, passenger facilitation processes, Flight Safety Systems Standards and environmental sustainability initiatives in the aviation sector.
  • Support corporate fiscal, legal and regulatory compliance in the South West Pacific.
  • In conjunction with the Area Manager, support commercial and business development activities, including identifying new commercial opportunities, monitoring market trends within the aviation regulatory framework and identifying key customer profiles, competition trends and behaviours.
  • In close co-operation with IATA’s Corporate Communications department and the Area Manager, monitor and report on media developments, and support the development of coherent national communication strategies in support of IATA’s objectives, programmes and policy positions, whilst coordinating with the Regional Leadership Team regarding marketplace communications.
  • Lead the organisation of IATA’s events in the South West Pacific and support the Area Manager in representing IATA at local and regional industry events, and serve as a facilitator and host for visits of IATA’s Senior Managers and/or Subject Matter Experts.
  • Any other responsibilities, as determined by the Area Manager.

We would love to hear from you if

  • You have a university degree in Aviation, Business Administration, Political Science or any other relevant discipline. An advanced University degree would be an asset.
  • Minimum of twenty years of professional experience with at least five years of experience in a similar role. Proven experience in leading teams with exceptional talents for building relationships and managing projects.
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of government and regulatory frameworks within the aviation sector.
  • Well-developed negotiation and lobbying skills and possessing a high level of cultural intelligence.
  • A well-established understanding of airport operations and environmental sustainability initiatives in the aviation sector. Understanding of Cargo logistics is preferred but not mandatory. Entrepreneurial flair, with a strong sense of commercial acumen. Prior experience in sales and marketing would be an asset.
  • Able to work in a small team environment.
  • Sound knowledge of information technology systems and their applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is essential, whilst knowledge of French and other regional languages would constitute an advantage.

  • Must be able to legally work in Australia and hold appropriate residency or citizenship status.
