Description:

We have an exciting opportunity someone with a keen interest in infection prevention and control to join this innovative and dynamic team. In this role you will support the team in the implementation of the Annual Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme.
The post holder would be expected to provide high quality administrative support to the team as well as participating in the programme by collecting surveillance data and conducting audits under the supervision of the team. The successful applicant will provide advice and support to all areas of the Trust covering a range of specialist oncology services.
We have a well-established team, with quality improvement support and we are looking for a highly motivated person with a demonstrable interest in IPC and surveillance.
The post holder will work as a key member of the infection prevention and control team, supervised by the Infection Prevention and Control Nurses. You will have a professional approach, excellent organisational and communication skills with a flexible and innovative approach to working within a team and alone to meet the deadlines and demands of the service.

The post holder will work closely with the Trust’s multi-disciplinary teams supporting infection prevention and control practices across departments.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
Administrative duties
Provide all administrative support across the entire programme of work of the Infection Prevention and Control team.
Provide a professional, friendly, supportive and positive working relationships with staff.
To ensure communication channels are used appropriately to facilitate the flow of information from the IPCT to ward/department leaders, clinicians, and Trust committees, communication department
Work autonomously, making judgments and decisions as appropriate, ensuring the effective co-ordination and smooth running of the team.
Work flexibly as service needs dictate.
Assist in the production and sending of monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the team.
Support the production and update of project plans and performance reports using excel software to the requirements of the teams.
Attend and co-ordinate meetings including outbreak control meetings, team meetings, Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Committee and other meetings as appropriate.
Organize conferences and external events as required.
Liaise with Director of Infection Prevention and Control, Consultant Microbiologists, Laboratory Manager and other key stakeholders as required.
Maintain and update the electronic diaries of the Infection Prevention and Control Team
Maintain an electronic diary and appointment system to ensure effective use of team and own time.
Type correspondence, including emails, agendas, minutes and other documents from written copy, dictation or verbal instruction, on behalf of the team, and generate own correspondence as required.
Arrange and provide administrative support for meetings and events, including room/classroom booking, preparing agendas, compiling and distributing papers, arranging catering, providing travel directions and acting as first point of contact regarding meeting arrangements and attendance, taking minutes/action notes, and following up on action points.
Contribute to the management and development of policies within the team.
Interact with colleagues both internally and from partner organisations to ensure smooth co-ordination of meetings and events across organisations.
Maintain security of stock, including stationery and IT equipment.
Order stock as required.
Surveillance/Audit Duties
To be responsible for the Infection Prevention and Control surveillance system IC Net (including adding users to the system) and liasing with external company about the system as well as Trust IT to resolve any problems.
To support the Infection Prevention and Control Team by responding in a timely manner to information requests and the collection and submission of data for national returns.
To be responsible for data quality within the Team ensuring that information both provided and received by the area is accurate and valid. Any difficulties, identified should be resolved through discussion with the Team, and other as appropriate.
To participate in the implementation of appropriate monitoring mechanisms in compliance with the Code of Practice for Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI’s) including carrying out hand hygiene audits.
To carry out hospital-wide audits i as directed by the the Infection Prevention and Control Team such as sharps safety and clean and dirty utility rooms. To be able to communicate with staff about the audit and what you will be doing.
To assist in the development of and collect data for a yearly hospital-wide survey of knowledge about infection prevention and control.
To assist the IPCT in the analysis of data obtained from audits.
To be proficient in obtaining information from patient administration systems including (but not limited to) Medway, Clinical Web Portal and Theatreman.
To collect surveillance data for the surgical site surveillance programme using the above systems and other patient records. To input SSI data into the appropriate software/programme.
To present data as required to the team
Able to use Excel , Word etc to set up documents and spreadsheets and extract information and Access databases. To use PowerPoint to develop and prepare presentations
Identify opportunities for improved data collection and reporting.
To be an active participant in the Healthcare-associated infection reduction (HAIR) collaborative.
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
