The Information Governance Team are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Information Access Officer to join our established friendly and supportive team who contribute to a key area of work of the Resources Directorate.
This is a full-time, permanent post working 37 hours per week within the Resources Directorate based at County Hall, Preston.
Information Access Officers are responsible for considering and responding to requests for information made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR) and the subject access provisions of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
Whilst not essential, a good understanding and working knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act (2018) and the application of the exemptions to those regulations is highly desirable, as would working knowledge and practical experience of working within a similar role within an information governance, legal or compliance setting.
We are a small team within a large and complex public sector organisation, and the successful candidate must be able to evidence practical experience in a similar role, preferably within the public sector.

Customer Focus - You’ll be passionate about delivering a great service and enjoy dealing with people, asking for support when you need it and building on your knowledge, skills and experience.
Knowledge and Experience – You must be able to demonstrate experience of working within a busy and varied administrational role and have excellent organisational and time management skills. Full training will be given, but a general awareness of Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information legislation is essential.
The team handle personal, sensitive and confidential information and candidates must be able to carry out their duties with discretion and demonstrate commitment to the principles of good governance within the public sector.
Great Communication – You’ll be engaging and providing support and legal advice to members of the public, colleagues and third-party organisations, so being able to communicate information clearly and confidently and listen to individual requirements is key to the role.
Excellent Organisational Skills – We are a busy team who deal with approximately 3,000 requests for information each year, so being methodical and working under pressure are essential. You will need to be able to prioritise and work with precision on a number of tasks simultaneously.

Initial training for this role will take place at County Hall, Preston.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE/JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience of working in a busy administrational role preferably within an information governance, legal, or compliance role.
  • A good understanding of FOIA, EIR, UK GDPR and DPA
  • Practical experience of working within an information rights setting is desirable.
  • Working to tight statutory deadlines and managing a wide range of complex tasks.
  • Experience of working in a complex large public sector organisation.
  • Experience of dealing with internal and external clients.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
