Responsibilities:

The Information Compliance Team is based within the Assurance Service. We manage data breaches, Subject Access Requests (SARs),Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and Environmental Information Regulation(EIR) requests, in compliance with statutory timescales. The team also manages Police requests, reviewing personal information before it is shared for ongoing investigations. We also have a team of SAR Review Officers, that focus on reviewing and redacting personal information for Children’s Services SARs.
This particular role is focussed on Data Protection. The post holder will be reviewing and redacting records for SARs, which is where an individual requests copies of personal information that the Council holds on them. This role will focus on Children’s Services requests, and will involve a weekly caseload, with allocation occurring every Wednesday. This case load will require the post holder to review and redact sensitive information about children, young people and their families.

Additional duties include:

  • Processing SARs at first contact, through to completion#
  • Investigating data breaches
  • Logging Police requests
  • Reviewing Police requested material
  • Office based admin duties e.g. scanning and printing

Although there are many variables, our expectation is that a high proportion of hours will be used to complete SAR reviews. The remainder will be spent taking on requests from other areas (identified above) as and when demand requires.
The role is best suited to a part time workforce, due to the large amount of reading and careful consideration of digital records. It is suitable for hybrid work, with flexible family-friendly hours. Whilst based at County Hall in Dorchester, the role is suitable for a high level of homeworking, if preferred. There will however be a requirement to travel to County Hall in Dorchester, periodically, for the office based duties.

We are seeking someone with the following skills:

  • pro-active and flexible in their approach to work
  • confident in using their own initiative
  • ability to assess, manage, and prioritise conflicting work deadlines
  • accuracy and attention to detail
  • excellent IT skills and a digital mindset
  • good organisational skills
  • first class communication (both oral and written)
  • ability to challenge views in order to influence them

You should have a basic knowledge of data protection but will work under the guidance of the Senior Information Compliance Officers. On the job training will be provided and we are great believers in investing in people!
