Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (IT Mgr I) of the Network Service Management Division, the Information Technology Specialist II (IT Spec II) is a Systems Integration/Solutions Architect performing at the recognized technical specialist high level, acts as a consultant and advisor to State of California agencies and/or departments, executives, private industry service suppliers, and California Department of Technology (CDT) technical staff, addressing statewide information technology issues and technical project management support for the California Government Enterprise Network (CGEN), which is a statewide managed IP network. The IT Spec II provides customer Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity planning services and technical project management support for the California Government Enterprise Network (CGEN). The IT Spec II supports Infrastructure Services with developing and deploying strategic directives and initiatives; providing issue and technology research and analysis; leading technical teams implementing network improvements; and participating in cost and rate development. The IT Spec II is involved in designing, testing and evaluation of services and technology standards; and in planning tasks related to the administration, implementation, and oversight for the CGEN program. The IT Spec II works on CGEN Customer Network Improvements from initial meetings through “design and build” process, assesses customer network solutions and makes recommendations to ensure the customer has and efficient and effective network to support their clients. As a network professional, the IT Spec II provides technical expertise, advice and guidance to CDT staff and customers regarding their roles in utilizing managed IP networks and services. This IT Spec II is the technical lead for the Network Service Management Section.

Working Conditions

• Must pass a fingerprint background criminal record check completed by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
• May be required to work occasional off-shift hours and weekends, including holidays.
• May be required to occasionally respond during evenings and weekends to ensure the 24 x 7 operations of the data center.
• May be required to climb stairs at various clients’ sites.
• May be required to travel to other CDT campuses, as well as customer sites.
• May be required to travel to attend seminars, training and meet on-site with customers, vendors, and others.
