Job Description and Duties
The CalSTRS Information Security Office Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Information Technology Specialist II in the Office of the General Counsel Branch.
The Information Security Office (ISO) is CalSTRS’ authority on information security and cybersecurity matters. The Information Security Office protects CalSTRS data assets from unauthorized access, use, misuse, disclosure, destruction, modification, or disruption. Read about the programs in ISO below.
The Office of the General Counsel is comprised of multiple highly visible and complex business areas: Office of Legal Ethics & Accountability (OLEA), Enterprise Information Management & Legal Operations, Information Security Office, Legal Services, Investment Counsel, and Litigation Services.
Under the direction of the Chief Information Security Officer, the Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) serves as Cloud Security Architect and is a subject matter expert on cybersecurity and managing third-party risk technologies, projects, solutions development, and strategy. The incumbent is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks requiring regular innovative problem-solving where guidance is not readily available. The incumbent establishes and defines the technical vision and strategy for cloud security, leads and mentors project teams, advises management on cybersecurity strategy and formulates information security policies, standards, procedures, guidelines and technical requirements for systems, networks, architecture, and third-party vendors/service providers to ensure the security, confidentiality, integrity, availability, and privacy of CalSTRS information assets. This position is in the Information Security Engineering and System Engineering, and IT Project Management domains.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:

  • Ability to develop roadmaps to guide the transition from the existing technical architecture to the target architecture.
  • Experience with identifying security gaps and resolve security risks associated with penetration testing.
  • Prior experience developing, formalizing, and maintaining technical documentation/operational guides for cloud security controls.
  • Ability to ensure resolutions are clearly documented; communicate resolutions to leadership, staff, and appropriate business area customers.
  • Ability to collaborate with technology engineers and staff to design, test, and deploy new cloud security systems, configurations, and solutions to enhance and fortify CalSTRS cloud security posture.
  • Experienced with providing expert technical advice for enterprise projects, proposals, business cases and other proposed changes by identifying security risks or issues.
    Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
    Telework Information: We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 2-3 days per week.

    All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.
