About the role
The insight team’s mission is to influence Tesco to make confident decisions because we understand Customers and Colleagues better than anyone. Our key priorities are setting the customer agenda, commercialising insight, business partnering internally and externally, storytelling and redefining insight.
In this varied and fast-paced role you will use your expertise in Data Analytics to create deep insights about our customers to support a programme of insight that meets our strategic goals, directly influencing key decision making. Robust and agile analytics, research, commercialisation, cross functional partnering, and curation are just some of the ways you will ensure we put customers at the heart of our business.

You will be responsible for

  • Analysing data sets of multiple types (research, behavioural, panel, economic) to find insight about our customers, competitors and markets that we can act on. You will be accountable for leading the provision of analytics as part of our wider insight partnership to a specific part of the Tesco business
  • Be the insight expert on project/programme teams, offering consultation on methodologies, store trials, customer behaviour/perception etc. This will include using analyst resource at your disposal to deliver reviews and recommendations then communicating these to the senior leadership teams
  • Use expertise to produce accurate insight which develops and drives actions in support of our customer growth strategy. Collaborate with Insight Partners on how to best land this insight into the business, through excellent story-telling and embedding skills
  • Actively build positive relationships with Analysts and Researchers in the team (including internal and external agencies) as well as those in other teams (Product, Channel, Property) and with our data science team in Technology. Directly manage the work plan of 2-4 analysts and data scientists split across UK, India and Dunnhumby
  • Anticipate requirements for further insight support – liaising within the team to ensure these are part of future data, tools and capabilities being developed. Pro-actively alert to developments in the external analytics field
  • Work closely with Insight Partners on briefs, and then lead projects from beginning to end – ensure these deliver against requirements, and are presented in a way to land the key messages with impact

You will need

  • Strong analytical background applied across a number of areas using both simple and complex statistical models
  • Skilled in extracting, analysing and interpreting data. SQL is required, experience using statistical / data analytics and dashboard creation software is useful e.g. R, Python, Tableau
  • Brilliant communication and data visualisation skills are essential
  • A curious self-starter that is keen to learn innovative ways and techniques
