About The Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Installation & Applications Engineer to join our Telecom Engineering team based in Eastleigh. The team are responsible for designing and developing optical fibre products (cables & blown fibre units) for a range of UK and overseas customers. You will be responsible for testing the designs to ensure these meet customer and international standards.
We are seeking a candidate who’s a curious learner, enjoys working initiatively and driving continuous improvements. This position could be suited for a Field Engineer with fibre knowledge from a Telecom environment, that may be looking for a site based position.

Responsibilities

  • Day to day management of the on-site testing facility and preparation and conducting of cable installation testing.
  • Preparation & delivery of telecom cable test qualification programs on time.
  • Liaison with production to secure cable samples necessary for testing.
  • Preparation of detailed test reports of all tests conducted. Maintain the test report database, providing copies of test packages to support design engineering and commercial as necessary.
  • Develop new tests to meet customer requirements as part of team along with design engineering. Along with providing application support to customers.
  • Provide updates to the Engineering Manager on tasks and projects on a weekly basis, along with formal close out presentations on completed projects.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Hold previous experience with the installation methods to install fibre cables and units. This is both underground and aerial cables.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills, tenacity and creative thinking.
  • Product knowledge including materials and cable manufacturing processes would be advantageous, however not necessary as suitable training will be provided.
  • IT skills in MS Office necessary.
  • Must be able to make on the spot decisions alone when working away from the factory.

Must have a valid driving license. Short duration travel in the UK and overseas may occasionally be required.
