The Instructional Designer will use proven instructional design and course development experience to translate business needs into learning solutions. In-depth knowledge of learning trends and delivery methods (including web-based and multi-media technologies) will further enable success in this role.
Here’s how an Instructional Designer for our North American Headquarters (NAHQ) office located in Edmonton, AB contributes to our team:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of progressive instructional design experience in a corporate environment
  • Postsecondary diploma or degree from a recognized instructional design program or related discipline preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills (French fluency is an asset).
  • Proven organizational skills, high level of detail orientation, and ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of adult learning and instructional design theory and best practices.
  • Knowledge of rapid e-learning development tools and software will be considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, work independently and manage project deliverables and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel within North America.
  • Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning, as shown by the completion of certifications and/or additional formal education, will receive preference.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with subject matter experts to complete needs analysis and job task analysis to design and develop behavioral and technical curriculum for adult learners.
  • Applying adult learning methodologies and best practices in the design cycle of all learning.
  • Designing training for diverse modalities that include: instructor lead classroom-based, e-learning, micro-learning and performance support programs based on PCL’s educational standards.
  • Acting as project lead for professional development initiatives and apply the principles of project and time management to track tasks/deadlines.
  • Developing and maintaining strong, customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Researching best practices related to learning for design, delivery and implementation improvements.
  • Providing company-wide consulting services and support on matters related to learning and development initiatives.
  • Working with competency frameworks, student assessment, course and program evaluation methodologies, or project management would be considered a strong asset.
  • Evaluating courses or programs, implement revisions and update documentation to meet established curriculum standards.
  • Working effectively in a collaborative team environment and independently as required.
