INSTRUCTOR, SKI RESORT OPERATIONS & MANAGEMENT (ON-LINE)

The School of Hospitality and Tourism is seeking an online instructor for industry specific courses that guide maintenance and operational staff in the ski industry through a comprehensive understanding of regulations governing the construction, maintenance, inspection and operational requirements of passenger ropeways and passenger conveyors found in the current CSA standard. These online courses are offered three times a year (fall, winter, and spring) and cover important industry regulations that are part of an integrated, standardized training program for ski industry operating and maintenance personnel.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to teach.
  • A robust understanding of the CSA Z98 code book and how it relates to passenger ropeways and passenger conveyors.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience (including Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of Moodle, iLearn or other Learning Management System
  • Ability to relate with diverse students and industry stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Red Seal Trades qualification combined with a minimum of five years operational and maintenance experience at a ski resort.
  • Experience as passenger ropeway/conveyor inspector/safety officer through an agency or at a provincial level.
  • Senior management experience in the hospitality industry is an asset.
  • Previous training or teaching experience.
  • Provincial Instructional Diploma or equivalent is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment while delivering course outcomes.
  • Facilitating student learning using relevant application of industry content and industry specific guidelines.
  • Administration of course - preparation, delivery, and grading.
  • Evaluation of student progress and achievement using valid and effective assessment and feedback.
  • Continuous course development and updating of curriculum to ensure relevance.
  • Maintaining professionalism with students and industry relations.
  • Participating in school meetings, holding office hours and other duties as assigned by the school chair.
