- Exciting opportunity to be involved in the operation of one of the world-leading neutron scattering facilities and to perform cutting-edge science experiments.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The OPAL reactor provides neutrons to a suite of neutron-scattering instruments within the Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering (ACNS), the leading neutron scattering facility in the Southern Hemisphere. We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and curious candidate to carry out instrument scientist duty on the Quokka Small Angle Neutron Scattering machine.
The instrument scientist will assist external users to conduct the experiments, to provide advice, where needed, on the design of the experiments and following data analysis. The instrument scientist will collaborate with domestic and international researchers, and to participate in maintenance and improvements of the instrument.

Responsibilities:
- To perform local contact duties on the Quokka Small Angle Neutron Scattering instrument;
- Provide scientific and technical support before the experiment, along with (if required) an advice on data analysis for the users;
- To work work other members of the instrument team and technical staff, to maintain and improve the instrument’ performance;
- Undertake personal research;
- Engage with the scientific user community, aiming to extend it;
- Participate in the outreach activities.
