JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Description
We have a permanent full-time role for an Electronics Engineer to join our Research & Development Engineering team focused on the development, design and integration of electronic hardware, as well as working on sensors and embedded software for monitoring freshwater and coastal ecosystems.
You will be contributing to exciting and impactful coastal and open ocean research programmes, and aligned commercial opportunities through your work. The role will include troubleshooting and deploying equipment, as well as downloading and storage of the data collected. As you may be deploying the equipment, there may be some travel as part of the role.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
About you
You will ideally have a Bachelor of Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering or other relevant qualification. Alternatively, we will also consider significant experience in these disciplines including deployment and maintenance of water quality instrumentation. Due to the physical nature of deploying and retrieving equipment you must be fit and able to undertake field work, specifically on boats.
Demonstrable experience with the following is an advantage:
- Programming and interfacing micro controller systems (e.g., Micropython, PIC, Arduino)
- PCB CAD package(s) and understanding of PCB design and manufacture
- 3D mechanical design, prototyping and manufacture (e.g., CNC, 3D printing, laser cutting)
- Familiarity with aquatic instruments and sensors
Why work for us?
The successful candidate will join an experienced team of people based in Nelson dedicated to delivering independent world-class science to protect and restore New Zealand’s freshwater and marine environments. We pride ourselves on providing a supportive and positive working environment for staff to thrive and reach their potential.
We offer life and income protection insurance benefits along with a positive and supportive environment where you will be a valued team member. There are plenty of opportunities to be involved in workplace events; ranging from science seminars to cultural, social and wellness events.
