POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Intensive Care Unit, Senior Resident Medical Officer
Employment Type: Full Time
Classification: SRMO 1 - 3
Salary: $99,996-$122,359 (Plus 11.5% Super)
Location: The Canberra Hospital, Woden. North Canberra Hospital, Bruce.
Section: Division of Surgery

BEHAVIOURAL CAPABILITIES

The ability to efficiently manage and prioritise own workload
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to appropriately manage difficult conversations with patients and family members and create a safe and pleasant working environment within the unit.

High level interest in the teaching of medical students, interns and RMOs.

  • Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change in a dynamic medical environment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
  • Have completed two years of post-graduate medical experience; and

Currency in Basic life support by the time of commencement in the position

  • Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students

The mandatory training set by ACT health and procedural credentialling program of the intensive care unit, Canberra hospital
You will need to understand how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

You will need to fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and other related frameworks.

  • The successful candidate will be required to participate in the organisation’s Performance Review & Development Program which will include a regular review of the candidate’s performance against the responsibilities and key result areas associated with their position and a requirement to demonstrate appropriate behaviours which reflect a commitment to ACT health values and strategic directions.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

DUTIES:

Under limited direction you will:
Provide day- to-day medical care for patients of Canberra Health Services. The clinical management expected includes acute admissions, in-patient care, attendance and participation in the Medical Emergency Team, inter-disciplinary consults and clinical handover
Maintain adequate medical records with legible entries.
Participate in the supervision and education of more junior medical staff and medical students.
Participate in the after-hour’s roster as required and in accordance with current safe working hour’s provisions.
Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
Work within and support the multidisciplinary clinical team.
Comply with the policies and requirements of the Medical Board of Australia and the policies of Canberra Health Services. This includes the promotion and application of workplace relations, workplace equity and diversity and workplace safety, and completion of mandatory training
Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
