The Opportunity
Working closely with the Master Grower and General Manager the Cultivation Manager will manage the cannabis cultivation process. Process includes cloning, transplanting, plant maintenance, pest management, destruction and material/ product inventory management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all cultivation activities which includes 5-10 direct staff and 20-30 indirect staff. Under the guidance of the Canopy Master Grower, manage production of cannabis in 15-30 clean grow rooms.
  • Maintain and promote a positive work environment through collaborative discussions, team communications, rigorous root cause analysis and transparent decision making.
  • Maintain compliant operation against all work instructions, SOP’s, Change Requests, JSA’s and Master Grower requests for the cultivation area. Help draft and update procedures relating to regulatory, training and quality compliance for cultivation.
  • Manage safe work conditions and practices within the cultivation area. Enforce company Safety, Health and Environmental policies.
  • Identify and manage cost improvements and lead the development and execution of cost improvement and productivity ideas within the cultivation area. Supports new or improved product trials.
  • Along with the facility Scheduler ensure scheduling of all cultivation rooms and optimal asset utilization. Establish manpower requirements to meet schedules. Propose and lead corrective actions should issues arise.
  • Ensure personnel development and performance management planning for all direct and indirect reports, including ongoing proficiency training and smooth onboarding of new employees.
  • Ensure the cultivation areas and adjacent plant are maintained in a clean, organized and safe manner. Lead 5S initiatives.
  • Coordinates with Facility Manager on preventive maintenance schedule to avoid down time. Ensure tight conformity with setpoints and respond rapidly to issues.
  • Work closely with Master Grower and other subject matter experts to relentlessly improve quality and yield
  • Communicate effectively with other department managers, supervisors and employees to ensure timely resolution of problems and accomplishments of cultivation department and company objectives.

Skills required

  • Demonstrated managerial experience
  • Demonstrated communication and organisational skills
  • Sense of urgency and responsibility to meet delivery schedules
  • Experience working in either manufacturing or agricultural environment
  • Hard working and rigorous mindset
  • Ability to learn new processes
  • Ability to work in fast paced and growing environment
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, QMS is preferred
  • Working experience in GAP, HACCP regulated environment is preferred
