Description:

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) has an opening for an Intermediate CAD Technician to join our Municipal Infrastructure Services Group (MIS), working out of the Collingwood office.
The MIS Group undertakes work for a variety of public sector clients. Typical projects include preliminary design, detailed design, and construction administration for reconstruction of municipal roads, sewers, watermains and stormwater management facilities, technical review of proposed commercial and subdivision developments and environmental assessments for infrastructure improvements.

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • Diploma/certificate in Civil Engineering from a civil engineering technology program;
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D design software;
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Experience working as part of a project team in a consulting environment is considered an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently;
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment;
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a vehicle

Responsibilities:

The position involves working closely with Project Managers, Professional Engineers, and technical staff on a variety of projects.

More specifically, the position will involve carrying out the following duties;

  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to design and produce preliminary and detailed design drawings for a wide variety of road, storm and sanitary sewer and watermain and infrastructure projects (including plan and profile drawings, design details, and cross section drawings);
  • Proactively advance design techniques and procedures (as required) to help support other designers, project managers and technical staff;
  • Coordination of drawings with other design team members, sub consultants and utility companies;
  • Coordination of drawing filing;
  • Assisting with the training and mentoring of junior staff; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
