INTERMEDIATE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

On behalf of our client, Procom is seeking a Intermediate Database Administrator for a full-time permanent position in Calgary, AB

INTERMEDIATE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR - JOB DETAILS:

We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and self-directed individual to join our Technology Infrastructure Team. The role of the Intermediate Database Administrator involves designing, installing, monitoring, maintaining, and performance-tuning our production Microsoft SQL-based databases, ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also accountable for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their associated software. The successful applicant will have a proven track record in supporting enterprise environments and demonstrated experience in successfully managing complex and challenging projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Work with application development team to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery data conversion and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
  • Install and configure relevant server components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
  • Create, or support creation of, required PowerBI and SQL reports in response to business user needs.
  • Perform database transaction and security audits.
  • Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
  • Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use.
  • Control and coordinate changes to the database, including the deletion of records, changes to the existing records, and additions to the database.
  • Develop and coordinate back-up, disaster recovery and virus protection procedures (database related).
  • Collaborate with other analysts and system owners in the testing of newly integrated software programs and applications.
  • Provide related briefings and status reports to management.
  • Participate in after hour on-call rotation and after hour maintenance.

MANDATORY SKILLS

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or seven years equivalent work experience.
  • Must have about 4 to 6 years’ experience performing the essential functions (listed above) as a SQL Database Administrator working well within a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting database servers.
  • PowerBI and SQL reporting.
  • Azure SQL experience is an asset.
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
  • Experience with VMware and Microsoft Windows Server platform. (4 – 6 years).
  • Experience working in a Law Firm as a Database Administrator supporting accounting and document management systems is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast pace, high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, and keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
