Role At a Glance
As an Intermediate Electrical Engineer you will perform responsible and varied engineering assignments, requiring a comprehensive understanding of a specific engineering discipline and awareness of its reciprocal effects on other disciplines. This role involves solving problems using initiative and judgment, interpreting customer requirements, investigating design and field engineering difficulties, and coordinating work schedules. You will also consult with suppliers, contact approval agencies and clients, and participate in project planning to meet budget, schedule, and performance objectives.
This role is open to applicants interested in working at our office in Kitchener, Hamilton, or Toronto.

What You Will Do

  • Interact with clients throughout project delivery, supporting project management by assisting in supervising electrical and multi-discipline projects to meet client deliverables, budgeting, and timelines; schedule and coordinate production activities and quality assurance reviews, and participate in planning to achieve prescribed budget, schedule, and performance objectives.
  • Conduct technical analysis, prepare corresponding reports, develop concept, schematic, and developed designs for electrical project scope including lighting, power, and systems instructions; prepare construction cost estimates at various submission stages for client budgeting; complete technical audits of existing facilities and prepare corresponding reports.
  • Survey existing conditions for renovation projects; coordinate electrical and telecom service supply requirements with utility companies; perform site investigations, progress reviews, and participate in Construction Administration Field Review and project closeout stages during construction.
  • Complete electrical service and distribution systems calculations and equipment selection, including demand loading, fault current assessment, protective device coordination, and ESA review package documentation.
  • Oversee lighting design (indoor and outdoor), including fixture, lamp, ballast selection, and lighting calculations to IES standards.
  • Conduct electrical systems design for building code compliance, including life safety (fire alarm, emergency/exit lighting) and resource conservation (lighting selection, lighting controls, mechanical equipment services).
  • Coordinate electrical installation and space needs with other design team members.
  • Solve problems using a combination of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures, or methods developed from previous assignments; interpret customer requirements, investigate design and field engineering difficulties, and coordinate work schedules; consult with suppliers independently to secure appropriate procedures for projects.
  • Contact approval agencies and clients as directed by senior engineers; prepare progress reports, recommend changes in designs, estimate costs, and recommend payments for completed work; contact associates in other departments to discuss and advise on project requirements; maintain knowledge of related architectural and engineering disciplines, referring unusual problems to senior engineers or specialists.
  • Assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors or senior team members to support the overall success of the engineering teams and company objectives.

What We Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, applied sciences, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Professional engineering certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and methods.
  • Experience with engineering software and tools (e.g., Revit, CAD software).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and judgment in solving complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with related architectural and engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and coordinate work schedules.
  • Proficiency in preparing progress reports and cost estimates.
